"Keep Calm call a Lactation Consultant" - Lactation Link

Before having my first baby, I did tons of research on the best baby products and attended labor and parenting classes. I thought I was ready for my baby girl to come. My house was clean, the nursery all put together and I was ready for the delivery. I knew that I wanted to breastfeed and everyone I talked to said that the nurses and lactation specialist at the hospital will help. So I read a little about what to expect and I thought I was ready for breastfeeding too. My first attempt at breastfeeding didn't go well. I didn't know what I was doing and the nurses were trying their bests to help. They just kept saying that my baby would just latch, when she didn't a few nurses tried to force her to take my breast while she was upset. I didn't know any better at the time… but that was not helping. I had my baby at 3:35am on a Sunday and the lactation specialist wasn't coming in until Monday morning around 10. I didn't want to stay in the hospital another night, but I wasn't having success and wanted help from the lactation specialist. In the meantime, the nurses brought in a breast pump to help with milk production. I went to the hospital breastfeeding class and then the lactation specialist visited my room to help. After a few days, things were going better. Looking back on that experience now and especially after taking Lactation Link’s Breastfeeding Basics Class, I know my experience would have been better if I would have taken the class before.
